Susquehanna Valley Orienteering
Beginners' Guide: Punching
Now that you've found your control, punch your card with the punch that hangs from the marker.
Each control's punch has a different hole pattern. At the finish, the officials can verify that you've been to each control by checking the patterns of the punches.
If the meet is using electronic punching, then you should insert your e-punch into the hole in the box and listen and watch for the beep and flashing light. The e-punch records each control you've visited and what time you were there.
That's it! Simply follow the map to the rest of the controls in order, punch at each one, and head for the finish! Even if you don't complete the course, please remember to check in at the finish so we know that you are out of the woods. Additionally, there is a 3 hour time limit on all courses. Even if you haven't completed the course, you must return after 3 hours.
